Hugh is born and bred in the Tees Valley area. Having left school, aged 18 with few qualifications, he struggled to find his vocation and counts professional drumming and sales as some of his many attempts at a career. Aged 32, Hugh decided that things really weren’t working and it was then that he embarked on an educational path at Teesside University, graduating with a degree in Public Administration. In 1997 Hugh became involved in community regeneration, working in the Teesside area until 2006 when he was appointed Chief Executive of Tees Valley Community Foundation.
Hugh’s love for music continues and he keeps himself busy as a member of four different bands, where there is, in his own words, “significantly more enthusiasm than talent”.
When asked what he most likes about Teesside, he tells us “driving across the moors with the roof off the car; Saltburn; Baker Streets’ Micro pubs and Parmos.
