Thirteen Teesside children’s sports clubs have bagged a share of £124,909

Thanks to a special challenge organised in partnership with TFM Cash for Kids and Tees Valley Community Foundation.

The Sports Challenge offered local grassroots groups the chance to raise thousands of pounds for new equipment, facilities, kit or training over a one-month period.

All of the money raised by each group was then matched up to the value of £2500 with an additional £2500 given to the club that raised the most and an extra £500 for the group that went “above and beyond.”

An additional prize of a £1000 sportswear voucher from sponsor Tigra Sportswear and Imprint Applications was awarded to the club with the best virtual fundraising idea.

Boro Rangers Girls Football Under 11’s/12’s were the overall challenge winners who receive a grant of £21,010.

They organised a wide range of fundraising activities including bingo, virtual race night, virtual quiz night, sponsored dunk and a Saturday Night Takeaway Zoom.

Seaton Carew FC came in second receiving a grant of £17,008 while Hartlepool Juniors and Little Kickers took third with a grant of £14,977.

Hugh McGouran, CEO of Tees Valley Community Foundation, said: “To say we are hugely impressed with the efforts this year would be an understatement; the hard-working local sports clubs across this region have surpassed themselves under incredibly restrictive circumstances this year – they deserve the match funding and all the benefits it brings for them.

“Teesside is home to an incredibly resilient, determined community; TVCF continues to provide stability and continuity under any circumstances, no matter how challenging. We are now investigating ways to make this challenge bigger and better as we continue our partnership with Cash for Kids.”

Mark Holt from Tigra Sportswear commented

“It has been a privilege to support Cash for Kids this year and see the clubs raise such a phenomenal amount of money in these difficult times. As a local manufacturer of sportswear we are proud to support local sports teams and reward one lucky team with a voucher for £1000 worth of Tigra products.”

Amiee Littlefair, Cash for Kids Charity Manager, said

“This is money going back into our local community, via the groups, to support the work they do with children and all the benefits that come with being engaged with sport. We know from previous challenges that the competition helps groups to learn the skills to raise funds themselves and be self-sufficient in the worst financial climates. This is important this year than ever before. We are delighted that the partnership with Tees Valley Community Foundation continues to thrive and thank them greatly and Tigra Sportswear and Imprint Applications for their support.”

Other groups who took part in the challenge and received matched funding were Cleveland Juniors FC (£14,826), Billingham Synthonia Juniors FC (£12,960), Priory ABC (£6025), Teesside Academy of Gymnastics (£5715), Boro Rangers City U10’s (£5638), Darlington Storm Basketball Club (£5454), Gymmad Gymnastics (£5447), Darlington FC Youth (£5339), Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Club (£5255) and BTASC (£5251).
