Tees Valley Leisure was set up in 1999 as a not for profit organisation to run all leisure and sports activity in Redcar & Cleveland. The contract for delivery was re-tendered in 2014 but TVL was not successful. It was decided to wind up the organisation in 2016 and during this process TVL approached the Community Foundation to discuss the donation of any reserves following the closure. The Community First programme was running at the time and the donation was able to attract significant government match, establishing the Tees Valley Leisure Fund. In line with the work of the donor organisation, the objective for the Tees Valley Leisure Fund will be grants focusing on sport and community engagement.
