The Stockton Borough Community Fund was established as a result of an innovative partnership between Stockton Borough Council and the Community Foundation in 2011.
The Council were legally responsible for a number of moribund Trusts varying widely in value. These funds had found their way into Council care as a result of the owner charities winding up or becoming ineffective due to the complex nature of its charitable objectives.
Stockton Council decided that the funds would be more effectively managed by an experienced local grant giver, the result of which was the ‘Stockton Borough Community Fund’, the first of its kind in the Tees Valley. This is an endowed fund that provides community groups working in the Borough of Stockton on Tees with a dedicated grant fund.
